On Wisconsin!

Our last road trip of the summer took us to Sheboygan, WI for my cousin Christa's wedding. We really do enjoy our road trips and were excited to plan this one out. Sam taught the kids early on to say "On Wisconsin!" and I told them we would see lightening bugs when we got there. Ask Abby why we went to Wisconsin, it was to see the bugs!
We were up and at em' at our usual 3am leave time with dad at the wheel and the rest us of sound asleep. We made it to Lincoln by 10am and headed to the Children'sMuseum. It wasloadsof fun and a great way to burn off energy and prep the kids for a nap. We stayed about 3 hours, got lunch and headed to Des Moines where the Drury Inn awaited us. We learnedabout the Drury from
my uncles, free foodand drinks in the evening and free breakfast in the
morning...how did we not know about this! We spent some time relaxing, swimming and munching on free food that first evening.
After a later start than expected we left for Madison, WI where we were meeting Bryan and Lori for the afternoon. We miss them so much since they moved from CO but we know they are thrilled to be back home in the midwest. Since we only had a few hours they took us to campus and we went to the Terrace. University of Madison does it right for a student union, right ona beautiful lake with a brat grill and beer taps. We orderedup brats and Spotted Cow beer (a new fav) while the kids ran around and caught up on life.

Future Badgers??

After exploring campus and State Street we made our way to Lake Michigan and the town of Sheboygan. We met up with all the Fischer family that evening and had pizza, laughs and beer in the lobby...it was going to be a great weekend! Friday we debated going to Green Bay to see Lambou Field but I wasn't in the mood for another car ride, and Sam was disappointed. Instead we explored Sheboygan. We took a long walk down to the boardwalk and the lake. We didn't have suits but that didn't stop Luke from getting in the water to pick up

dead fish.
Princess Abby had daddy carry her in the water. That night we had true Wisconsin Brats (done the right way), German Potato salad and pie to celebrate Uncle Nick's 30th birthday. The hotel we stayed at had a great courtyard with a playground and the twins played with Carolyn and their uncles till it was way past bed time.

We had a great time at the wedding (see the wedding post) and slept in before we started the long, very long car ride home. We meandered through the backroads of WI and had lunch at the Dells. We decided that we will come back to WI again for a longer trip, we just loved the state! Sam was a trooper and drove us all the way to Souix Falls, South Dakota. We chose the northern route home just to check some more states off our list. :-) Our last day on the road we got up early and went to the falls, which are pretty amazing. We resisted the urge to stop at the many South Dakota attractions (Corn Palace, Car Museums etc...) and kept on trecking home. We cut south through Nebraska and finally made it home around 6 that night. We loved our trip but were glad to be home, except the twins, they were upset that we were not staying in a hotel again. Then a few days later they asked if we could have breakfast at the hotel. :-) We've got ourselves some travelers!!
By the way...we didn't see any lightening bugs in WI...and went we crossed the state line into Minnesota Abby was furious that we were leaving without seeing the bugs.
