Road Trip to Illinois-First Half

We had planned a family road trip to Illinois for the end of July to visit my extended family. Our plan was to drive out with my parents to Northern Illinois to visit the Fischer side for a few days then drive to Southern Illinois for the Reeves family reunion. With the sudden passing of Grandpa our plans changed a bit. We left a week early without my parents and took our first Penn Family Road Trip. Day one took us from Greeley to east of Des Moines, Iowa. Day two was from Des Moines to Rockford. We passed the time watching lots of movies and listening to music. We made sure to take rest breaks and long lunches at playgrounds. Each afternoon the twins took naps for 3 hours. We had a great visit in Rockford for the second time this summer. One day Emily, Sam and I took the kids to the Children's Museum in Chicago. They all had so much fun exploring and pretend playing. Dinners were spent in Dan and Em's backyard with Aunt Sue and Uncle Mark. We spent a morning with Grandma too. She had been feeling crummy all week but when the twins came over to read to her she perked right up. It was a bittersweet visit. She looked so happy but we know it will probably be the last time she sees them. I am so thankful that she had a few precious hours with her great-grandchildren.
