San Antonio - Day 1

This past weekend we went on our first family vacation. Sam spent the week in San Antonio at a conference where he was presenting (we are very proud of this accomplishment) so we decided to join him for the weekend. Our sitter Connie's husband Ryan was with Sam on the trip too so we made a group vacation out of it.

Connie, her two boys Hayden (7) and Cooper (3), the twins and I all headed to the airport to begin our journey at 7:30 in the morning. I actually began the day much earlier as both babies decided to wake up at 4am...I think they were "too excited to sleep!!" Armed with caffeine in hand, two cars and lots of luggage we made it to the park and ride at about 8:30. I think the man helping us into the shuttle had the shock of his life watching us pile more luggage and kids in front of him. Checking in was not as crazy as we had imagined...it was security that started some melt downs. We were told that we could bring liquid and baby food through so I had packed 6 bottles full of water, 3 containers of baby food, some yogurt and numerous snacks. We followed the signs and headed straight to the family line. After taking off 4 pair of shoes, 8 jackets, two babies out of car seats, folding up the stroller, unloading the diaper bag, 3 other carry ons and making it through the metal detectors we had to wait for them to "test" each food and liquid item I had packed!! AHH!! Both boys were hungry and had to go to the bathroom, the twins saw their bottles and wanted them right then, we were trying to pack everything back up and suddenly Connie and I were hot and needing a drink!! About 10 minutes later we left and found a quiet spot to sit, eat and play. Oh how we loved the airport floor!!!
About an hour of playing and full bellies later we boarded the plane. I held Abby and she fell asleep before the plane took off. Connie had the boys and held Luke who decided to play, poop and eat during the flight. We were so proud of how well they did...and I caught a few zzz's on the way.
Our adventure wasn't quite done yet, we still had get our luggage, board the shuttle to the rental car place, get the van and find the hotel. Luggage came fast, shuttle ride was hot (nearly 90') and getting the mini-van wasn't too bad. We managed to find the hotel without any trouble and were greeted at the door by our loving husbands!! Our first request was food and margaritas!!
We stayed at a hotel about a block from the Riverwalk so we headed down and found a restaurant with happy hour. We ate some good food and drank some refreshing margaritas. The twins had their first quesadilla and loved it...Luke tried refried beans and was not a fan...he pulled them out of his mouth twice. Once we were relaxed we decided to take the riverboat cruise. Sam and I went on it a few years ago but the Rose's had never been. It was a beautiful evening and we really enjoyed the ride. Abby looked at the water for most of the ride and Luke snacked.
We sat next to a couple who had 20 year old twins and they were proud of us for getting out and vacationing with Abby and Luke. They assured us that it does get easier and to enjoy every moment. After the cruise we heading up to street level and walked around for awhile. We were all pretty exhausted after awhile and headed back to the hotel to get some rest.
