We road tripped it to Chicago for our good friends Tony and Maggie's wedding. Sam met Tony his freshman year in college and they have remained close ever since. His new wife Maggie is great and we love spending time with her, she is so good with Abby and Luke. They could not wait for this wedding. We had been talking about it for a long time and practicing eating a fancy meal. They loved getting dressed up, Abby in her dancing dress and Luke in his ux-ee-do (or red tie). Since Sam was a groomsman I was on single mom duty for the ceremony. They had a lovely Catholic mass at a beautiful church in Lincoln Park. When they walked out we waved ribbon streamers at them...I didn't get a great picture but it was fun!
After the ceremony, the wedding party went cruising around Chi town to take pictures, while we went back to the hotel to relax before the reception. I was hoping we would take a nap but no luck, the did rest but I knew they would be tired. Abby actually fell asleep on me right before dinner started and the last thing she said to me was "all I want to do is dance with Maggie." She slept all through dinner and the couple dances. As the party started I woke her up and the she smiled and said, "I get to dance with Maggie now!" And that she did, she ruled the dance floor for about 45 minutes before getting tired and told us she wanted to go to bed.
Luke wasn't shy about dance either, he had a few buddies that he ran around and danced with. We loved seeing them having so much fun. Mom and Dad had our share of fun too. Grandma Fish came out to spend the weekend with us so when Abby said she was done, we walked her up to the hotel room, then 15 minutes later, Luke was done and up he went. Sam and I danced and talked with friends that we don't see as much as we would like. What a blessing to have her there. Made it easier on all of us!
