Today we baptized Abby and Luke into the Catholic faith. After a morning of getting food ready, lawn mowed, house cleaned, babies bathed and dressed we headed out to mass. We were fortunate to have a big group of family and friends join us to witness this special event. The baptism took place after mass and lasted about 15 minutes. The entire time I held Abby she did her famous bubble blowing and entertained the group. Deacon kept going but threw some smiles her way. Luke was calm and observing everything happening. They did very well and we didn't have any tears as they were blessed. Their Great-Grandma Fischer couldn't make the trip out from Illinois but she sent a very special gown for the twins to "wear" while they were baptized. The gown was made by my grandma's mother so my Great-Grandma and Abby and Luke's Great-Great Grandma. It was worn by all the members of the Fischer family during their baptisms including me. It is over 100 years old and very delicate so we draped it over them as they were baptized. My cousin Emily is expecting in November and her child will be the next to "wear" it. It is such a special tradition and we were grateful that Abby and Luke could be apart of it. My mom took pictures of them with the gown on her camera so those will be posted later. We thank God everyday for our little miracles and it was wonderful to now have them as members of the Catholic Church.
After the ceremony we headed home and had a little party with everyone. The twins fell asleep on the way so they missed a good hour and a half of the celebration. While they slept we ate, watched football and chatted. Finally, Abby woke up (and not a real happy Abby) but warmed up after a few minutes. She was a hit with her smiles and laughs. Not long after that, my friend Maggie, her sister Kate and I were spying on Luke and he opened his eyes and started to smile. I think he was surprised to see people watching him. Luke joined the party and kept flirting with all the girls. It was hard to pull him away from Great Grandma Penn who insisted that he could come home with her.
